Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Representative George Miller (D-CA), and 30 Something Working Group Members Kendrick Meek, Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Tim Ryan joined college students to call on Republicans to reverse the raid on student aid. Students are already being squeezed by the Republican Congress’ $12 billion in cuts to student aid. Recently, Democrats unveiled their New Direction for America, which includes a proposal to make college tuition more affordable.
The
Rap, Rock 'n Roll Radio Row, sponsored by Leader Pelosi and the "30
Something" Democrats, reached young workers in Democratic and Republican
districts across the country. From state to state, Democrats are talking
with young workers about the President's plan, and one thing is clear:
the more young Americans hear about the President's plan, the less they
like it. While President Bush likes to say that young people have the
most to gain under his plan, the truth is that young people have the most
to lose. Privatization would slash benefits by more than 40 percent for
future retirees, and these benefit cuts hit younger workers the hardest.
House Democrats are fighting to stop privatization and strengthen Social
Security so that future generations have a benefit they can rely on. Listen
