What
Should We Do With the Rubber Stamp?
This week
marks the end of the 109th Congress and our last 30 Something hour of
the year. Night after night, we've been using our giant Rubber Stamp to
illustrate the Republican Congress rubber-stamping the Administration's
policies, but starting in January, thanks to Americans across the country,
we will no longer have a need for it. How should we celebrate this momentous
occasion? What should we do with the Rubber Stamp? Click
here to make a suggestion >>

Meek and Rep. Tim Ryan discuss the suggestions thus far:

Our New Direction begins with a commitment to integrity, civility, and
fiscal responsibility. We will break the link between lobbyists and legislation.
We will govern the House of Representatives under bipartisan administration,
so that the voice of every American will be heard. And we commit to no
new deficit spending, with pay-as-you-go budgeting. These are the principles
by which we will govern. And under these principles we will take our country
in a new direction, with priorities that address the urgent needs of the
American people. Learn

The New Direction for America advances the right priorities – to make
our nation safer and our economy fairer; to make health care and college
more affordable; to energize America with energy independence; and to
guarantee a dignified retirement for all Americans. These initiatives
– the product of a united Democratic House Caucus working together with
our Senate colleagues - are our priorities for the 109th Congress. We
are committed to building an America where all families can live and prosper
in diverse, safe, and vibrant communities. Learn

At
$5.15 per hour, the minimum wage is now at its lowest level in 50 years,
adjusted for inflation. A minimum wage earner working full-time all year
will earn just $10,700, well below the poverty line. The most basic needs
of survival simply cannot be met – it takes a full day’s work for a minimum
wage earner to pay for just one tank of gas. This is unjust and un-American.

other group of Americans has stood stronger and braver for our democracy
than troops and our veterans. House Democrats introduced the New GI Bill
of Rights for the 21st Century to honor the bravery of our troops and
the tremendous sacrifices that their families have made. The New GI Bill
will repeal unfair tax burdens on military families, provide Veterans
with the benefits they deserve like affordable health care, education
and job training, strengthen our support for our men and women in uniform
and improve benefits for our National Guard/Reservists. Learn
