House and Senate leaders announced today that they will hold a celebration recognizing the Honorable John D. Dingell of Michigan as the longest-serving Member in the history of the United States Congress.
A study by a Democratic research group has found “[h]ealth insurance costs will rise up to 25 percent for individuals who buy coverage on their own in 2014 under” President Obama’s health care law. ObamaCare sure is “bending the cost curve” – just in the wrong direction.
Recent news reports make it pretty clear that ObamaCare really is a complete and total train wreck for just about everyone, and that it needs to go before it does more damage.
The House-passed Smarter Solutions for Students Act accomplishes several goals shared by both the president and Republicans. It stops student loan interest rates from doubling in July. It’s a market-based solution that gets politicians out of the business of setting interest rates. And it is a “long-term fix” for the student loan program that is fairer for students, borrowers, and taxpayers.
If the White House is truly concerned about preventing student interest rates from doubling, it should be a little more consistent in its policy, a little less focused on political stunts, and call on its own Democratic-controlled Senate to act.
