Press conference anyone? Gas prices are rising and the American people want answers, but all they are getting from the Obama Administration are anti-energy policies that cause prices to spike further and cost more American jobs.
The new House majority launched the American Energy Initiative, an ongoing effort to help lower costs and create new jobs by stopping government policies that are driving up gas prices, expanding American energy production, and promoting an “all of the above” energy strategy. Here’s a look at how the American Energy Initiative will counter the Obama Administration’s drive to block American energy production and make prices “skyrocket” on families and small businesses. Republicans want to:
- Stop government policies that are driving up gas prices & threatening jobs.
The Obama Administration is using the EPA to impose a “cap and trade” national energy tax that the House Energy & Commerce Committee says could increase the price of a gallon of gas by nearly $1 (if not more). This is the same plan President Obama once admitted would make utility prices “necessarily skyrocket.” The Heritage Foundation says job losses could “exceed 800,000 for several years” under these kinds of regulations. That’s why House Republicans are taking action to stop these policies – in fact, the Energy & Power Subcommittee has already approved the Energy Tax Prevention Act (H.R. 910). - Expand American energy production to lower costs & create more jobs.
President Obama’s policies have caused domestic oil production to drop by 16 percent versus projected levels, and future projections show continued decreases in domestic production and more foreign imports. The Obama Administration has unilaterally shut down energy production “in the eastern Gulf of Mexico” and “off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts,” canceled dozens of energy leases, and imposed new red tape and regulatory hurdles that the Interior Secretary admits could make developing new energy more difficult. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce estimates that delayed or canceled energy projects nationwide are costing us nearly 2 million jobs each year.
- Promote an ‘all of the above’ strategy to increase all forms of American energy.
While the new majority believes we need “all of the above” to help lower costs and create new jobs, the Obama Administration has actually jeopardized the production of alternative sources of energy. For example, the Administration tried to unilaterally abandon the Yucca Mountain nuclear energy repository. And the EPA moved to block a coal mine in West Virginia – despite the fact that it already had a federal permit – threatening jobs across the region. An “all of the above” strategy will allow for all forms of American energy production.
Republicans are determined to stop the Democrats who run Washington from driving up gas prices on families and small businesses, and making it harder to create new jobs. Click here to learn more about the American Energy Initiative.
