In an interview on Kilmeade & Friends, Speaker Boehner previewed today’s House vote on H.R. 6169, the Pathway to Job Creation through a Simpler, Fairer Tax Code Act. This measure builds on the House’s bipartisan vote to stop the president’s small business tax hike by taking the next steps to fix our tax code to help bring home some of the jobs that have gone overseas. Boehner pointed to the looming tax hikes and ‘sequester’ defense cuts as two of several big issues facing the country that the president has failed to address. “Where’s the president? Where’s the leadership? There is none,” Boehner said. Here are some brief excerpts from today’s interview:
BOEHNER: “WE’RE SERIOUS ABOUT REFORMING OUR TAX CODE” TO KEEP JOBS HERE, BRING JOBS HOME
“What we’re trying to do is outline the fact that we’re serious about reforming our tax code, bringing the rates down, make a flatter, fairer system for all Americans, and outlining a process for expedited consideration of this idea as we get into the new year. … We do know that over the last ten years, there have been some 4,000 changes to the tax code – last 15 to 20 years, there’s been some 10,000 changes. … This is gonna be a big job.”
BOEHNER: SMALL BUSINESSES ARE FROZEN WITH UNCERTAINTY, AND “WHERE’S THE PRESIDENT, WHERE’S THE LEADERSHIP?”
“Eleven months ago, Labor Day last year, the president decided to check out. He’s been AWOL from the legislative process ever since. He hasn’t been involved in trying to fix the looming tax hike that’s going to hit Americans on January 1. The House acted yesterday in a bipartisan way. He hasn’t done anything to stop the national security with the coming defense sequester that hits on January 2. These are big issues that are locking up businesses all over the country because of the uncertainty, and where’s the president? Where’s the leadership? There is none.”
BOEHNER: PRESIDENT HAS “NO IDEA” HOW MUCH DAMAGE HIS TAX HIKE ON SMALL BUSINESS WILL CAUSE
“The president’s never created a job, he’s never had a real job... I can tell you from my dealing with him, he has no idea how the real world that we live in actually works. And no idea that this tax hike that he’s calling for will affect over a million small business owners – people like myself in the old days – and according to Ernst & Young, cost our economy” more than 700,000 jobs.
