GOP Leader: Democrats "are simply running out of steam – and out of credibility – as the American people continue to ask ‘where are the jobs?’"

House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement after the House Ethics Committee announced that it will convene an adjudicatory hearing – the equivalent of a trial, live on C-SPAN – to deal with the myriad ethical issues facing Chairman Charlie Rangel (D-NY):

“Today’s announcement is a sad reminder of Speaker Pelosi’s most glaring broken promise: to ‘drain the swamp’ in Washington.  Instead of presiding over the ‘most honest, most open, and most ethical’ Congress in history, Washington Democrats have presided over a string of bailouts, job-killing government takeovers, and other backroom deals.  They are simply running out of steam – and out of credibility – as the American people continue to ask ‘where are the jobs?’  Republicans are offering better solutions to get people working again and make government more accessible and accountable to the people it serves.”

NOTE: Gallup reported today that Americans’ confidence in Congress has fallen to an all-time low.  Also today, House Republicans launched a renewed push to highlight and enact “read the bill” reforms demanded by the American people.  Leader Boehner posted on America Speaking Out an idea that Republicans have been promoting to prohibit the House from considering any bill that has not been publicly available via the Internet for three days.
