House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) today issued the following statement applauding House passage of H.R. 9, the Small Business Tax Cut Act, a key plank of the Pledge to America:
“The House continues to lead on jobs, passing a small business tax cut less than 24 hours after a veto-proof majority backed the Keystone XL pipeline. A key plank of the Pledge to America, the Small Business Tax Cut Act will encourage growth and investment by allowing small business owners to deduct 20 percent of their business income from their taxes. It will take the opposite approach of the ‘stimulus’ by empowering small businesses instead of enabling big government. I appreciate the leadership and hard work of Majority Leader Cantor, Chairman Camp, and the members of the Ways & Means Committee.
“While the House is cutting taxes to promote private-sector job creation, President Obama and Senate Democrats are pushing for higher taxes to fuel more government spending. This week, Democratic leaders in the Senate demonstrated their desire to continue the spending binge that’s hurting our economy by punting on a budget for the third straight year. With millions of Americans still asking ‘where are the jobs?, I hope the president and Senate Democrats will relent and work with Republicans to find common ground so we can help the private sector put people back to work.”
