House Passes Smarter Solutions for Students Act
WASHINGTON, DC – House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) released the following statement after the House passed the Smarter Solutions for Students Act (H.R. 1911) by Chairman John Kline (R-MN) and Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), another element of the Republican Plan for Economic Growth & Jobs:
“Today we are one step closer to taking the politics out of student loans, which will make paying for college easier and fairer for students. With our bill, students will have access to the best interest rates available and won’t have to worry about politicians holding those rates hostage every year. It’s the kind of market-based, bipartisan, long-term solution students and families deserve – and it reflects our commitment to focusing on jobs, making life work and expanding opportunities for all Americans without expanding government.
“The White House attacks on this bill to help students, coming just weeks after the president himself proposed something similar, reek of partisan politics, and are yet another reflection of the arrogance of power that seems to have taken root in this administration after five years of governing.”
