WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and Members of Congress will hold two bipartisan Congressional Gold Medal Ceremonies in September.  The Gold Medal represents Congress’s highest expression of national appreciation for distinguished achievements and contributions.  

On Wednesday, September 12, Arnold Palmer will be recognized for his contributions to the game of golf and his civic contributions to the nation.  Legislation awarding this Gold Medal was signed into law on September 30, 2009.  H. Con. Res. 133 approves the use of the Capitol Rotunda for the ceremony. The ceremony will be held Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. ET in the Rotunda of the United States Capitol.  See below for additional details for the ceremony.

The following Wednesday, September 19, Aung San Suu Kyi will be honored for her leadership and steadfast commitment to human rights and for promoting freedom, peace, and democracy in her home country of Burma.  Legislation awarding this Gold Medal was signed into law on May 6, 2008. H. Con. Res. 135 approves the use of the Capitol Rotunda for the ceremony.  The ceremony will be held Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. ET in the Rotunda of the United States Capitol.   Additional details will be released closer to the date of the ceremony.
