Speaker Boehner Announces Rep. Goodlatte Will Deliver the Weekly Republican Address
“We’re at a crossroads in America: we can control spending or we can allow big spenders to lead us further down the road of chronic deficits and leave our children and grandchildren saddled with debt that is not their own. A Balanced Budget Amendment will force Congress to make tough decisions by prohibiting Congress from spending more than it takes in,” Rep. Goodlatte said. “Forty-nine out of fifty state governments are required to balance their budgets and Congress should be forced to do the same. It will be an honor to address the American people on the need for a Balanced Budget Amendment."
Bob Goodlatte is in his 10th term representing the Sixth Congressional District of Virginia. He serves as chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Intellectual Property, Competition, and the Internet, and vice chair of the House Agriculture Committee. Goodlatte has championed the Balanced Budget Amendment since his first day in Congress in 1993.
“A Balanced Budget Amendment would provide greater certainty about our nation's fiscal trajectory over the long haul, helping private sector small-business people — who are being overwhelmed with uncertainty from Washington — plan, invest and get back to creating jobs,” Boehner said. “No one in Congress has fought harder than Bob Goodlatte to make the Balanced Budget Amendment a reality, and I look forward to hearing what he has to say in this national address.”
