Speaker Boehner Applauds Bill Boosting Manufacturers’ Competitiveness, Urges White House to Submit Job-Creating Trade Agreements to Congress
House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) released the following statement tonight upon House passage of H.R. 2832 – an important bill increasing the competitiveness of American manufacturers – urging the White House to promptly submit all three pending job-creating trade agreements to Congress:
“By making American manufacturers more competitive with their overseas rivals, this bill removes another obstacle to private-sector job growth and can provide a much needed boost for our economy. I hope the Senate will take it up and pass it promptly.
“I also hope the White House will take the opportunity to build on this success and help open new markets for American-made goods by submitting all three job-creating trade agreements with Colombia, Panama, and South Korea to Congress. According to Obama Administration estimates, these agreements could create 250,000 new American jobs. With the unemployment rate at 9.1 percent and zero net jobs created in August, further delays are unacceptable.”
NOTE: H.R. 2832 renews the 40-year old Generalized System of Preferences, an important tool for helping make American manufacturers more competitive. Learn more about the Republican Plan for America’s Job Creators at Jobs.GOP.Gov.
