Speaker Boehner: H.R. 1 Cuts Discretionary Spending By $100 Billion
February 11, 2011
Press Release
House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement welcoming introduction of H.R. 1, a continuing resolution that cuts discretionary spending by $100 billion in the next seven months:
“Republicans are focused on creating a better environment for economic growth and job creation. To do that, we need to liberate our economy from the shackles of out-of-control spending and big government. That’s why the new House majority will seek to cut discretionary spending by $100 billion over the next seven months. We will not stop there, not when we’re broke and Washington’s spending binge is making it harder to create jobs. Chairman Hal Rogers and the Appropriations Committee have crafted a bill that makes real cuts in spending, and their efforts on behalf of the people have been tireless and tremendous. The budget will be another critical step, and I appreciate Chairman Paul Ryan’s leadership on this issue. I look forward to an open and spirited debate on the floor next week.”
