Speaker Boehner Meets With Premier Redford to Discuss Impact of Keystone Project Delay on Jobs

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) met with Alberta Premier Alison Redford tonight to discuss President Obama’s delay of the Keystone XL energy project which jeopardizes the creation of more than 20,000 new American jobs. Boehner released the following statement:

“President Obama says ‘we can’t wait’ to act on jobs, and yet that’s exactly what his decision on the Keystone energy project has out-of-work Americans doing: waiting. Canada’s prime minister has already confirmed that either American workers will benefit from this project, or our competitors in China and elsewhere will. This project has been deemed environmentally sound, and while deferring it until after the election might make for good campaign rhetoric, it does nothing for Americans still asking the question, ‘where are the jobs?’

“Needless government delays are just another barrier to long-term economic growth. That’s why later this week the House will unveil a new jobs bill that removes government obstacles to American energy production, and links increased production to infrastructure reform. We don’t need more wasteful ‘stimulus’ spending -- we need to get Washington out of the way of private-sector efforts to create new American jobs now and in the future.”
