Speaker Boehner Praises Senate GOP for Seeking Repeal of Job-Destroying Health Care Law
House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement applauding Senate Republicans for keeping their promise to seek repeal of the job-destroying health care law, and vowing to continue working to repeal and replace it with common-sense solutions that lower costs and protect jobs:
“I’m pleased Senate Republicans have kept their promise to seek repeal of President Obama’s job-destroying health care law. Each day this unconstitutional health care law is allowed to remain in effect – with its burdensome mandates and tax hikes – it costs our country jobs. People who create jobs – and those who need them – agree. A group of 200 economists and experts have backed repeal on account of the law’s ‘major barriers’ to job creation. If it’s a jobs bill Senate Democratic leaders are looking to support, they should join this effort to repeal the job-destroying health care law. It’s the right thing to do, and the right time to do it.
“The need for repeal continues to become more clear, whether it’s in the courts or the court of public opinion. We will keep our word to the American people and continue working to repeal this job-destroying health care law and replace it with common-sense reforms that lower costs and increase access without putting more Americans out of work. Our committees are hard at work. This debate has just begun.”
NOTE: A recent Rasmussen survey found that “58 percent of likely voters at least somewhat favor repeal of the health care law,” and a plurality believes “repeal of the health care law will be good for the economy.” A survey by Resurgent Republic found that a “plurality of registered voters (49 to 44 percent) support Republican plans to repeal and replace the health care reform bill, including a majority of Independents (54 to 36 percent support).”
