WASHINGTON, DC – House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) today issued the following statement following House passage of H.R. 1735, the National Defense Authorization Act:

“Whatever our troops need to get the job done, they should get it, and the House has acted to provide just that.  This bill increases troop pay and benefits, reinforces the mission to defeat ISIL, imposes greater restrictions on transferring terrorists, strengthens our cyber defenses, provides lethal aid to Ukraine, boosts our missile defense capabilities, and much more.   Indeed, Chairman Thornberry did fine work putting together a bipartisan bill that passed in committee with near-unanimous support.  Yet, many Democrats turned around and opposed fully funding our troops.  They did so without listing a single serious policy concern, letting politics come before national security.  With all the threats our troops face and the sacrifices they make, Democrats’ opposition to this defense bill is in fact indefensible.”
