WASHINGTON, DC – At a press conference today, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) highlighted a letter sent by Republican leaders to the White House this morning asking for more information on the administration’s decision to delay the ObamaCare employer mandate, while still imposing the law’s burdensome individual mandate on the rest of America. Following are Speaker Boehner’s remarks:
“I’m glad the president recognized that his health care law is not good for our economy. Because of ObamaCare, millions of full-time workers can only find part-time work. Health care costs are going through the roof. I think Senator Baucus had it right, this is a train wreck. This is what happens when you ram through a gigantic bill that no one has ever read.
“But just delaying the employer mandate, frankly, isn’t good enough. Today we sent a letter to the president asking him to justify delaying the employer mandate while leaving in place the mandate on individuals and families. Because if businesses can get relief from ObamaCare, the rest of America ought to be able to get relief as well.
“The president’s decision to use the ‘honor system’ to hand out subsidies I think exposes taxpayers to massive fraud and abuse. This is our job, on behalf of the American people, is to protect and to spend their tax money wisely. Having these subsidies without any verification is going to open the system up to all kinds of corruptions.
“We need to protect the American people from this law – permanently.”
