Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy released the following statement on House passage of two resolutions that disapprove of the President’s regulatory cap-and-trade:

“President Obama wants to reduce carbon emissions. But by advocating for policies like cap-and-trade—which will kills jobs, increase costs, and decrease the reliability of our energy supply—the President is ignoring America’s greatest success story in recent memory. Our energy revolution brought on by embracing technological advances in exploration is growing our economy and reducing carbon emissions at the same time.

“Because of the free market and our spirit of innovation, natural gas production has increased, our energy prices have decreased, and from 2005 to 2013, U.S. greenhouse gas emissions dropped more than any other country in the world. America should be leading the world by advocating for these policies that have proven results. Today, the House rejected the President’s false premise that a cleaner environment can only be achieved by arbitrary bureaucratic rules. As it always has, our success depends on freeing our economy, not tying it down with burdensome regulations.”
