Thirty-eight days ago, House Republicans passed a long-term spending plan that began cleaning up the mess left behind by House Democrats when they failed to pass a budget in 2010. Instead of joining with Republicans to ensure that we do not make the same mistake again this year, Democrats have embraced a strategy of inviting a government shutdown and launching shameless attack ads. The nonpartisan FactCheck.org has now called these ads “deceptive” for claiming Republicans support cuts “when no cuts have been proposed for those currently on Social Security or Medicare.”
