Thirty-eight days ago, House Republicans passed a long-term spending plan that began cleaning up the mess left behind by House Democrats when they failed to pass a budget in 2010. Instead of joining with Republicans to ensure that we do not make the same mistake again this year, Democrats have embraced a strategy of inviting a government shutdown and launching shameless attack ads. The nonpartisan FactCheck.org has now called these ads “deceptive” for claiming Republicans support cuts “when no cuts have been proposed for those currently on Social Security or Medicare.”

FactCheck.org On House Democrats’ Ad: “Deceptive” (D’Angelo Gore, “DCCC’s Deceptive Drive,” www.factcheck.org, 3/28/11)

FactCheck.org Noted That House Democrats Are Attacking Republicans For Supporting Cuts When “No Cuts Have Been Proposed.” “Democrats are accusing Republicans of ‘pushing to cut seniors’ benefits,’ when no cuts have been proposed for those currently on Social Security or Medicare.” (D’Angelo Gore, “DCCC’s Deceptive Drive,” www.factcheck.org, 3/28/11)

FactCheck.org Claimed That House Democrats Falsely Gave The Impression That Current Retirees Are In Jeopardy Under House Republican Plans To Save Social Security. “The DCCC gives the impression that current Social Security and Medicare beneficiaries are in jeopardy of losing their benefits if Republicans get their way. That’s not the case, based on the evidence it provided us.” (D’Angelo Gore, “DCCC’s Deceptive Drive,” www.factcheck.org, 3/28/11)
