Speaker Boehner’s creation of the Select Committee on Benghazi has forced the Obama Administration to be more accountable to the American people.  The timeline below details exactly how the Committee’s work led to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s decision to obtain Secretary Clinton’s unsecure, personal email server that was used to send highly classified information.

May 2, 2014 - Speaker Boehner Establishes the Select Committee on Benghazi

“The administration's withholding of documents – emails showing greater White House involvement in misleading the American people – is a flagrant violation of trust and undermines the basic principles of oversight upon which our system of government is built.  And it forces us to ask the question, what else about Benghazi is the Obama administration still hiding from the American people?

“It’s clear that questions remain, and the administration still does not respect the authority of Congress to provide proper oversight.  This dismissiveness and evasion requires us to elevate the investigation to a new level.

March 2, 2015 - News Breaks about Benghazi Committee Discovery that Secretary Clinton Used Personal Email Account at State Department

“The existence of Mrs. Clinton’s personal email account was discovered by a House committee investigating the attack on the American Consulate in Benghazi.”

March 10, 2015 - Chairman Gowdy Calls on Clinton to Turn Over Her Server

“Without access to Secretary Clinton’s personal server, there is no way for the State Department to know it has acquired all documents that should be made public, and given State’s delay in disclosing the fact Secretary Clinton exclusively used personal email to conduct State business, there is no way to accept State’s or Secretary Clinton’s certification she has turned over all documents that rightfully belong to the American people. That is why I see no choice but for Secretary Clinton to turn her server over to a neutral, detached third-party arbiter who can determine which documents should be public and which should remain private. Secretary Clinton alone created this predicament, but she alone does not get to determine its outcome.”

March 17, 2015 - Speaker Boehner Calls on Clinton to Turn Over Her Server

“The American people deserve all the facts about what happened in Benghazi.  Now that’s why it’s so important for Secretary Clinton to turn over her personal server to a neutral third party. And I think this is the fairest way to make sure that we have all the documents that belong to the public and, ultimately, all the facts.”

In the months that followed, Speaker Boehner, Chairman Gowdy, and other Republicans and national security experts continued to call on former Secretary Clinton to turn over her server.

August 12, 2015 - FBI Requests Clinton’s e-mail server

“Wells said her client was contacted by the FBI, which expressed interest in obtaining the old server.”
