A Better Way Across 12 States | Speaker.gov

Republicans continue to take the Better Way agenda to the country, promoting positive solutions to address the big challenges of the day. Here’s a recent snapshot from a dozen states around the country:

ALABAMA

Rep. Martha Roby (R-AL) spoke to members of the Greenville Chamber of Commerce to promote the Republican agenda called A Better Way. … National Security, getting the government out of the health care business, tax reform, focusing on our economy, and our job creation and how important that is to American families,’ Roby said.” (WSFA)

And here’s Rep. Bradley Byrne (R-AL) speaking to the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce: “Byrne … offered a remedy: the ‘Better Way’ agenda being presented by House Republicans. … Championed by House Speaker Paul Ryan, the ‘Better Way’ is a six-point plan addressing poverty, national security, the economy, health care, tax reform and the Constitution. Byrne described it as ‘the stuff we need to be doing the day after next Tuesday.’” (AL.com)

ARKANSAS

This week, Rep. Bruce Westerman (R-AR) discussed A Better Way at Jasper City Hall in Newton County.

CALIFORNIA

Appearing on This Day in Laguna Woods, Rep. Mimi Walters (R-CA) said, “We actually have a very good plan in place, and it’s called ‘A Better Way.’ … It’s a six-point plan. First of all, how do we get the economy started again?”

COLORADO

In a four-part interview with KRAI, Rep. Scott Tipton (R-CO) “gave Wild West Radio an overview of The Better Way Program, which is House Republicans’ response to policies enacted by the Obama administration.” (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4)

From Rep. Ken Buck’s interview with The Lamar Ledger: “‘There is a plan we have put out and it is called a better way,’ he said. … It dealt with six different subjects, he said, including taking people out of poverty and national defense. … ‘There is a very specific how Republican plan on what to do with health care in this country,’ he said.”

ILLINOIS

Appearing on The Annie Frey Show, Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL) talked about the Better Way health care plan. “People can go to the better.gop site and look at our better ideas for health care,” he said.

INDIANA

Rep. Susan Brooks (R-IN) recently visited a local YMCA to talk about child care: “Brooks, R-5th District, made the stop in Kokomo to get a look at the inter-workings of child care centers as part of a congressional initiative to make quality child care available to all families. … The initiative, called ‘The Better Way,’ features a section on poverty that puts an emphasis on ensuring “poor kids have more opportunities to succeed, from childhood to college.” (Kokomo Perspective)

Speaking at the Elkhart Rotary Club, Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-IN) “said she is excited to be part of a Republican-led initiative called ‘A Better Way,’ designed to reform the country's welfare system. ‘We need to help build a bridge that will take people out of poverty,’ she said. ‘I want to work towards a solution that will end the cycle of poverty many families are experiencing. Right now our system is built for failure.’” (The Elkhart Truth)

KANSAS

“Lynn Jenkins takes pride, she says, in listening to the voices of everyday Kansans. … ‘Our better way agenda, proposes common sense reforms to get the government out of the way by implementing practical solutions to real problems,’ said Jenkins.” (6News)

OHIO

Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) talked about the plan during an appearance on Around Miami Township: “We addressed poverty, tax reform, economic reform, health care, national security, and the probably biggest one affecting America today, is how we’ve drifted from constitutional authority. … There are many people that are in poverty that don’t know how to get out. They find it’s a full-time job just to work through the system … One of the things we’re working on in A Better Way is bringing this down to the local level...”

OREGON

“U.S. Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore., is highly concerned about the precedent being set by President Barack Obama with a continuing “overreach” of authority that threatens the separation of powers in the U.S. Constitution. …He invites people to check out ‘A Better Way,’ the Republican vision for a confident America in addressing issues with foreign policy and domestically at better.gop.” (The Dalles Chronicle) 

PENNSYLVANIA

“Rothfus hosts session on drugs, poverty, other local issues. ... He discussed upward mobility in context of House Republicans’ Better Way agenda that has steps designed to address poverty, national security, bailouts, executive branch power, tax codes and the Affordable Care Act. (The Tribune-Democrat)  

TEXAS

“U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry, R-Clarendon, in a letter to constituents urged people to meet with health insurance professionals for help signing up for plans. ‘Those of us who have opposed this law at every step have known that Americans would end up paying more for less coverage," he said. ‘House Republicans will be ready in 2017 to push our 'A Better Way,' which includes real solutions to fix our health care system.’” (Times Record News)

WEST VIRGINIA

Rep. David McKinley (R-WV) recently sat down with The Dominion Post editorial board: “House GOP leadership … has formulated a plan called ‘A Better Way’ that addresses six topics, including health care and tax reform. It notes that the current code is 70,000 pages ‘We know our tax code is broken.’”
