NDAA Supports the Military and Gives a Pay Raise | Speaker.gov

This morning, Speaker Ryan hosted an enrollment ceremony for the bipartisan 2018 National Defense Appropriations Act (NDAA). This legislation provides $634 billion for the military, including funds to modernize equipment and supply new aircraft, ships, and vehicles.

The NDAA also gives our service members a 2.4 percent pay raise—that’s the largest in eight years. We think our men and women in uniform deserve that. As Speaker Ryan said at the ceremony, “We here on a bipartisan basis are acknowledging the fact that we’ve got more work to do to support the men and women of our military, we’ve got more work to do to modernize our weapon system, we’ve got more work to do to make sure to give our troops, our soldiers, our airmen, and our marines the equipment they need to keep us safe in this very dangerous world.”

Now, the legislation will go to the president's desk for it to be signed into law. Speaker Ryan also thanked House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mac Thornberry (R-TX) for his work on this legislation. Watch the full ceremony here.
