Washington, DC – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs approving the Harry W. Colmery Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2017:

“Next week, the House of Representatives will vote on this important veterans’ reform. As a grateful nation, one of the core promises we make to the men and women who serve is to provide educational support and resources after service. Through the GI Bill, veterans have found a path to pursue rewarding careers. But a changing economy is leaving some gaps between traditional education models and the skills employers need. There are non-traditional education opportunities offering nanodegrees in web development, robotics, and artificial intelligence that are bridging the skills gap. It is our commitment to provide our veterans every opportunity to enter a rewarding career. This GI Bill reform provides flexibility to match our veterans with skills and education to do that. This is a win for our veterans and a win for our country.”
