In the midst of the highest inflation the country has seen in decades, House Republicans made a Commitment to America to lower energy costs and set the country back on the right track.

Today, House Republicans kept that commitment.

The Republican majority passed H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act, to reduce global emissions, streamline the permitting process, and reduce energy costs. It passed with bipartisan support in the House.

But this fight isn’t over. That’s why Speaker McCarthy and other Members of the House Republican Conference held a press conference to demand the Senate pass H.R. 1 and to urge President Biden to sign it into law.

Remarks as prepared below, or you may watch online here.

“It’s a good day in America for American families, the environment, and most importantly, the future of this country.

“Republicans, more than a year ago, went across the country to listen to America.

“House Republicans made a Commitment to America to lower energy costs.

“That’s exactly what this bill does. We made it H.R. 1 to put money back in American families pockets, reduce global emissions, and make the world safer.

“By doing so, China will not longer dictate the supply of critical minerals.

“If the President signs H.R. 1, we will produce them in America.

“No longer will the Governor of California buy oil from Vladimir Putin.

“He can actually buy it from his own state.

“We can produce the energy here in America.

“Under H.R. 1, America and our allies won’t be forced to rely on Russian natural gas, which is 41 percent dirtier than American natural gas.

“If we had replaced Russian natural gas in Europe for just one year, we would have reduced C02 emissions by 218 million tons.

“That can take place if President Biden signs this bill.

“We’re less than 100 days since the Republican majority has been sworn in.

“We are keeping our commitment to America by making us energy independent, making our streets safer, and making our economy stronger.

“We are just getting started.

“As I said when I was sworn as Speaker, it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.

“With each week, we are only getting stronger, the nation is getting safer, and the country becomes even greater.”
