Washington, D.C. — Today, in recognition of National Police Week, Speaker Kevin McCarthy and Members of the House Republican Conference held a press conference to thank law enforcement officers for their bravery and steadfast devotion to their communities.

In the press conference, Speaker McCarthy made it clear that House Republicans will always stand with law enforcement against anti-police measures and Democrats’ Defund the Police movement.

“I want to begin by addressing the heinous attack that happened in Rep. Connolly’s district office.

“Praying for a quick recovery for the staffers injured and grateful for the quick actions of law enforcement who apprehended the suspect.

“Last week, House Republicans went to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C. to pay our respects to the officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

“Today, as National Police Week begins, we continue to show our full support for our police officers by saying thank you to everyone who wears the badge.

“Our nation is blessed to have the bravest, most professional, most capable police officers in the world.

“For these protectors of peace, stopping criminals, saving innocent lives, and helping our communities is more than a job. It is a way of life.”
