House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) joined Fox News’ Sean Hannity Tuesday night to discuss the ongoing crisis in Venezuela, which he saw first-hand last month when he led a Congressional delegation trip to South America. Leader McCarthy noted these failed socialist policies driving the devastation in Venezuela, which are being pursued by Congressional Democrats, have no place in the United States of America.
Remarks are below, or watch online here.
“All of America should watch what is happening in Venezuela. I was just there two weeks ago along the border with other members, and there are about 50,000 people a day who pass over that border to Colombia to buy the essentials, from milk to toilet paper. I sat with them — they do not have electricity. The hospitals do not have electricity. They do not have running water. Babies are being born and put in cardboard boxes.
“I saw one picture where a doctor was performing a procedure and had no electricity so they used the light from their iPhone to try to perform the operation.
“This is what is scary, because 20 years ago Venezuela was the jewel of Latin America. It was the socialist policies that promised you free health care, promised you free education. Well, this is what you have gotten. This is the Bernie Sanders, the AOC’s of the policies that are moving forward.
“You had Venezuela that could produce oil, and what did Hugo Chávez do? He took the company over from the government and now it has failed. He took everything over from the government. The exact same thing that Bernie Sanders is asking for, Medicare For All. But not just Bernie, the majority of the Democrats have co-sponsored this. They want to remove 150 million Americans from their healthcare. Anybody who’s on Medicare Advantage – gone.”
