Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on the passage the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act:

“Every day across America, over 100 families are told that a loved one has died of an opioid-related overdose. That devastating news is not isolated. It does not affect only one part of the country. It affects every city, town, and community. That’s why Congress – Republican and Democrat alike – came together to pass the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act.

“This bill is the logical next—but not final—step in our battle to end the opioid epidemic. I want to thank my colleagues for their ideas and support in pushing this bill across the finish line. Together we are supporting treatment and recovery, encouraging prevention, protecting communities, and fighting fentanyl in a battle that is far from over.

“Our work will continue beyond today’s vote. We want to do our part to make sure no family has to endure the needless tragedy of an overdose death. For everyone affected by the opioid crisis—know that we are on your side. For those in the throes of addiction – know that this is something you can overcome, with the help of the community. Life on the other side of addiction is beautiful. The struggle to get there is worth the fight.”
