Dear Colleague on Unity and Patriotism During Veterans Day

November 11, 2021
Press Release

Dear Democratic Colleague,

Today, our Congressional delegation to COP26 observed Veterans Day by visiting the Scottish War Memorial at Edinburgh Castle.  It was a moving experience to see the solemn attention paid to Armistice Day.

“At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month,” as cannons were fired from the Castle, we joined people across Scotland in a moment of silence.  We also recognized that victory in the World Wars was made possible by Allies working together.  That spirit of mutual respect among nations was profound, as we honored those who risked their lives for freedom.

Working together was a theme of COP26 as we address the Climate Crisis with many more countries in the mission.  In that light, it is also necessary to work together to end the coronavirus pandemic.

We must all live up to our responsibility and draw strength from the patriotism of our veterans and men and women in uniform.

Respecting them is a unifying force in our nation, as we strive to live up to our promise to leave no veteran behind.

I hope that you had a patriotic and inspiring Veterans Day, as we work to build a future worthy of their sacrifice.

God Bless America,
