San Francisco — Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after Congressman Peter Visclosky of Indiana announced his retirement:
“Congressman Pete Visclosky is a pillar of the House of Representatives and an icon for Indiana’s working families. His 35 years of proud, persistent and principled leadership have made a difference for his community and for our country, and his guidance and friendship will be greatly missed by his colleagues in the Congress.
“Congressman Visclosky has dedicated decades to being a force for good for America’s hard-working men and women. His effective, outstanding leadership has helped create countless good-paying American jobs, reinvigorate the heartland economy and build the infrastructure of the future. As Chair of the powerful Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, Congressman Visclosky has worked tirelessly to ensure our military has the resources it needs to keep America safe, honoring the sacrifice of our men and women in uniform and the aspirations of our children.
“In his retirement statement, Pete urged the next generation of leaders to ‘be for something and not against someone.’ His integrity, honesty and firm sense of purpose has strengthened our institution, and will be greatly missed by Members on both sides of the aisle. We thank his wife, Joanne, and his sons, John and Tim, for sharing Congressman Visclosky with the country, and wish them the best in all their future endeavors.”
