Dear Colleague to All Members on The Heroes Act
Thank you for your leadership on The Heroes Act: our urgently-needed relief package to protect the lives and livelihoods of the American people from the devastation of the coronavirus crisis.
Yesterday, Fed Chair Jay Powell restated the need for Congress to immediately pass further economic relief: “Additional fiscal support could be costly, but worth it if it helps avoid long-term economic damage and leaves us with a stronger recovery. This tradeoff is one for our elected representatives, who wield powers of taxation and spending.” The Heroes Act delivers the strong, urgent response that this crisis requires: funding a science-based path to reopening the economy with testing, tracing and treatment, honoring our heroes with robust funding for state, local, tribal and territorial entities and hazard pay and putting more money in the pockets of workers and families.
The first CARES Act and the interim package were proposed by the Republican leadership in the Senate. We worked together to make these bills bipartisan. Now, the House Democrats are taking the lead with our proposal. It is important to note that more than 80 percent of the priorities in The Heroes Act have been supported by the Republicans in the four previous COVID-19 acts of Congress. We are proud of how we built on that bipartisanship and look forward to negotiations For The People.
In preparation for our vote on the Floor on Friday, I encourage you to consult the resources on The Heroes Act prepared by Committees of Jurisdiction, a section-by-section summary, state-by-state estimations for the state fiscal stabilization education fund, and a resource on relief provisions for your district and state, prepared by the Appropriations Committee.
I urge you to support this life-saving legislation and to be present on Friday.
