Pelosi Statement on SEIU Local 87’s Successful Contract Ratification
San Francisco — Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement congratulating members of SEIU Local 87 after their contract ratification:
“It is my honor to send congratulations to the members of SEIU Local 87 on their historic and hard-won victory. Thank you to President Olga Miranda and the entire SEIU Local 87 leadership team for their success in securing better wages, working conditions and benefits amid a once-in-a-century pandemic and economic crisis. In achieving Justice For Janitors, you have shown the country the power of America’s unions.
“On behalf of the United States Congress and our City, thank you to every member of SEIU Local 87 for your courage and patriotism on the frontlines of the pandemic. Each day, and often at personal risk, you are keeping our buildings clean, our families safe and our communities strong. I am very pleased that SEIU Local 87 and the Building Owners and Managers Association of San Francisco were able to reach this agreement: which is a model for the nation, for janitors to work with dignity.
“Our nation owes our unions not only gratitude, but action. That is why, as we Build Back Better from this crisis, Democrats are committed to lifting up our workers and their families. Democrats are proud to work side-by-side with our unions to enact the House-passed PRO Act law, so that every worker has the right to join in union, to achieve the Fight for Fifteen and to advance the American Jobs and Families Plans to make transformative investments in the foundation of our strength. And congratulations again to Olga and SEIU Local 87!”
