Pelosi Statement on Passing of Senator John Warner
Washington, D.C. — Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on the passing of former Senator John Warner of Virginia:
“The country has lost a great patriot. Senator John Warner was a hero in the military, a respected leader in the Senate and an inspiration to all with his joy for life.
“Senator John Warner was an historic force in Virginia politics and in the Senate in his thirty years of service. As a World War II and Korean War veteran and former Secretary of the Navy, John Warner brought exceptional experience and respect for our troops to his position as Chairman of the Armed Services Committee. In Congress, we all knew him as a voice of courage, conviction and comity; a leader unafraid to speak the truth but always committed to finding common ground and consensus.
“John Warner leaves a remarkable legacy of service that will long inspire Virginians and indeed all Americans. May it be a comfort to Jeanne, his children John, Virginia and Mary, and all John’s loved ones that so many mourn their loss and pray for them at this sad time.”
