Pelosi Statement on One Year Since President Trump’s Family Separation Policy
May 7, 2019
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Pelosi issued this statement one year after the President issued his family separation policy:
“The President’s barbaric and inhumane policy of ripping children from their parents’ arms was an atrocity that violated our American values and left a dark stain on our nation’s history.
“One year later, countless families remain torn apart and countless children left alone and subjected to needless trauma and heartbreak because of the Administration’s outrageous and unacceptable failure to reunify families. This is not simply a failed immigration policy; it is the cruel consequence of an Administration utterly lacking in humanity. Yet, the Administration continues to stonewall and refuse to provide Congress the answers we need to hold them accountable and prevent this horror from ever again happening.
“The Democratic House will continue to fight this Administration’s anti-family and anti-immigrant agenda, and will continue to hold Congressional Republicans accountable for their complicity in the President’s failed policies at the border.”
