GOP Polling: Opposing the Rescue & Jobs Plans Is Bad Politics in Key Districts

House Republicans voted no on the American Rescue Plan.  Then they got new polling telling them how bad that vote was for them back home.

That same internal Republican polling suggests voting against the American Jobs Plan could be an even bigger mistake.

McCarthy gave his Members a black eye with their Rescue Plan vote.  Strong-arming them into voting against the Jobs Plan may be forcing them to walk the plank.

The Washington Post reports that leaked House Republican campaign arm polling shows the American Rescue Plan and American Jobs Plan are more popular than former President Trump in key Republican districts:

The internal NRCC poll partially shared with lawmakers in April found that President Biden was perilously popular in core battleground districts, with 54 percent favorability. Vice President Harris was also more popular than Trump, the poll showed. Biden’s $1.9 trillion covid stimulus plan and his $2.3 trillion jobs and infrastructure package both polled higher than the former president’s favorability, which was at 41 percent, compared to 42 percent in February.

The leaked polling explains why Minority Leader McCarthy, Rep. Elise Stefanik and dozens of Members of the House Republican Conference are shamelessly attempting – and failing – to take credit for relief aid they voted unanimously to block.

It also explains why voting against the widely popular American Jobs Plan could put them in an even tougher spot.
