Pelosi Names Appointees to Independent Mexico Labor Expert Board
Washington, D.C. – Today, Speaker Nancy Pelosi named Cathy Feingold and Fred Ross, Jr. to the Independent Mexico Labor Expert Board, which was created under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement Implementation Act to monitor and evaluate the implementation of Mexico’s labor reforms and compliance with its labor obligations. All appointees to the twelve-member Board will serve a six year term.
“Last year, House Democrats secured a new and dramatically improved U.S.-Canada-Mexico Trade Agreement,” said Speaker Nancy Pelosi. “As a part of the strong enforcement mechanisms that Democrats added to the USMCA, it is my privilege to name two outstanding champions for workers’ rights, Cathy Feingold and Fred Ross, Jr., to the newly created Independent Mexico Labor Expert Board to provide the oversight and enforcement actions necessary to ensure Mexico’s timely implementation of important labor reforms.”
“Cathy Feingold’s career has been marked by an unwavering commitment to lifting up working families,” continued Speaker Pelosi. “Her 20 years of experience fighting for vital labor reforms throughout North and Central America have made her an invaluable voice in our work to end worker exploitation and strengthen workers’ rights, particularly for working women. As the current Director of the AFL-CIO International Department, Cathy Feingold will bring her knowledge and expertise to the critical task of protecting American workers and ensuring that Mexico stays true to its labor obligations.”
“Fred Ross, Jr. carries on a long legacy of labor rights organizing and advocacy,” added Speaker Pelosi. “Mentored by legendary labor rights advocates César Chávez, Dolores Huerta and his father, Fred Ross, Sr., he has spent his career lifting up the voices of vulnerable and disenfranchised workers throughout the U.S. and Central America. As a public servant and founder of Neighbor to Neighbor, a grassroots labor rights advocacy group, Fred Ross, Jr. has been on the frontlines of the global workers’ rights movement and committed himself to advancing bold, progressive labor laws that respect the dignity of all workers. His passion, knowledge and commitment to workers’ rights will be critical to the Board’s important mission.”
