Pelosi Statement on Shooting in Virginia Beach
June 1, 2019
San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement following the mass shooting at the municipal center in Virginia Beach, Virginia, which killed at least 12 people and injured several more:
“Yesterday’s tragic mass shooting in Virginia Beach has left another community shocked and heartbroken. In the aftermath of this horrific shooting, the prayers of every American are with the victims, their families, friends and loved ones. Our deepest gratitude goes out to the first responders who have put their lives at risk to keep innocent people safe and provide critical care to those in need.
“The daily epidemic of gun violence continues to exact a devastating toll on our schools, community streets, houses of worship and workplaces. Too many communities and too many families have felt the unspeakable pain and anguish caused by gun violence. Honoring our responsibility to act to avert more tragedies, the House has passed commonsense, bipartisan gun violence prevention legislation. The Senate must bring these bills to a vote.
“The American people share the grief of the entire Virginia Beach community. May it be a comfort to them as well as the friends and families of those killed that all Americans mourn with them at this terrible time.”
