Will McCarthy Let His Allies Slander an Officer Who Saved Lives on January 6th?
From the Speaker’s Press Office:
Minority Leader McCarthy has done everything he can to undermine a bipartisan investigation of the January 6th Capitol Insurrection. But letting his allies attack the heroic police officers set to testify before the committee is a bridge too far.
On Wednesday evening, Fox host Tucker Carlson slandered Officer Harry Dunn – a hero who saved lives on January 6th while being physically and racially attacked by insurrectionists. Carlson attacked Officer Dunn by questioning his fitness to testify before the committee and claiming Dunn could only “pretend to speak” for the officers who risked their lives that day.
Minority Leader McCarthy and House Republicans have led the charge to disrespect the police officers who defended the Capitol on January 6th – refusing to shake officers’ hands, dodging meetings with the families of fallen officers, and voting to deny Congressional Gold Medals for Capitol Police Officers.
House Republicans also unanimously voted against funding keeping police officers on the streets across their districts.
If McCarthy has any respect for the police officers who risked their lives to defend lawmakers on January 6th, he’ll condemn these attacks on Officer Dunn and call on Republicans to stop slandering the heroes who protected the Capitol from a violent insurrection.
