Dear Colleague on Passing Budget Resolution to Deliver Once-in-a-Generation Progress For The People
Dear Democratic Colleague,
Today, President Biden endorsed the House Rule which will allow us to consider the budget resolution, H.R. 4 and the bipartisan infrastructure bill next week. The budget resolution is the key to unlocking the 51-vote privilege of the reconciliation path for our transformative Build Back Better bill.
Recognizing that, the House must pass the budget resolution immediately. Doing so will:
- Maximize the leverage of our Caucus in the budget process, allowing us to proceed first in crafting the reconciliation bill;
- Empower our Committees of jurisdiction to quickly report our Build Back Better priorities to the Budget Committee, therefore eliminating the need for the House to return an additional time; and
- Most importantly, preserve the privilege of 51-vote passage in the Senate.
Again, any delay in passing the budget resolution could threaten our ability to pass this essential legislation through reconciliation. This jeopardizes the once-in-a-generation opportunity we face to enact initiatives that meet the needs of working families at this crucial time: expanding the Biden Child Tax Credit, Child Care, paid family and medical leave, universal pre-K, workforce development, veterans, education, climate, housing and many other priorities.
Our Caucus remains united in realizing President Biden’s vision to Build Back Better: creating more jobs, cutting taxes and lowering health care costs for working families. While the bipartisan infrastructure bill offers important progress, it is not reflective of the totality of Democrats’ vision. We must also deliver the Build Back Better bill that includes our priorities that meet needs of American families.
When the House returns on August 23rd, it is essential that we pass the budget resolution so that we can move forward united and determined to realize President Biden’s transformative vision and deliver historic progress.
Thank you for your leadership For The People.
