Dear Colleague on Advancing the Build Back Better Agenda
Dear Democratic Colleague,
On Wednesday, September 15, we will come closer to achieving President Biden’s and Congressional Democrats’ vision to Build Back Better, as the House Committees of Jurisdiction meet the deadline to submit their legislative proposals to the Budget Committee. We reach this important milestone with gratitude for the Committee Chairs, Members and Staff and indeed to our entire House Democratic Caucus.
We are now prepared to continue negotiations with the White House and Senate to reach reconciliation on legislation that meets the everyday needs of the American people and that addresses the climate crisis. As you are aware, we have certain limitations in terms of Senate rules. But we have no limit to our vision to pass transformative legislation For The People.
The For The People legislation is about creating good-paying jobs, while lowering costs, cutting taxes for America’s families and having the wealthy and big corporations pay their fair share. In doing so, we will transform our economy in terms of women in the workplace, and we will protect our planet with climate action. The climate crisis is a public health priority for clean air and clean water, a jobs priority for America’s preeminence in the green technologies of the future and a national security priority to avoid conflict over habitat and resources. It is also an ethical priority to honor our moral responsibility to pass a healthy, sustainable planet to the next generation.
Earlier this year, we took action to address the COVID crisis with the passage of the American Rescue Plan, which put vaccines in people’s arms, money in people’s pockets, children healthily back to school and workers safely back to work. Now, we build on this progress as we Build Back Better for women and families. Since working women with responsibilities at home took an enormous loss of jobs during COVID, we are now proud to be advancing legislation which is transformative for women: “children learning, parents earning.” This means child care, home health care, universal pre-K, the Biden Child Tax Credit, paid family and medical leave and more. We are advancing an agenda that helps our families and the economy because “When Women Succeed, America Succeeds!”
Let’s stay united in our quest to reach our goal and honor our values.
Thank you for your leadership.
