Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month:

“Hispanic Heritage Month offers all Americans a chance to celebrate the beauty, diversity and vibrancy of our country’s Latino community.  Whether through public service, entrepreneurship, educating our country’s future leaders or serving in our armed forces, generations of Latinos and Latinas have enriched our communities and strengthened our democracy.

“Today, House Democrats are working tirelessly to oppose the Trump Administration’s hateful, anti-immigrant agenda that dishonors the contributions of our proud Latino community.  In June, the Democratic House passed H.R. 6, the Dream and Promise Act to protect our courageous young Dreamers and hard-working TPS and DED recipients who make America more American.  Our Majority has stood strong against President Trump’s barbaric family separation policy, successfully stopped the Administration from undermining the critical Census and has remained committed to ensuring our fellow Americans in Puerto Rico have the resources necessary to recover and rebuild their lives.  While Republicans continue to undermine the health and well-being of our communities, Democrats are delivering bold progress to lift up hard-working families and guarantee that every man, women and child has the opportunity to pursue their American Dream.

“Democrats know that the beauty is in the mix, and during Hispanic Heritage Month, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to honoring the remarkable culture and rich traditions of our Latino friends and neighbors.  As we work to build a brighter future for the Latino community and all Americans, we are fighting For The People to lower health care costs and the price of prescription drugs, raise wages by rebuilding our infrastructure and clean up corruption to ensure Washington works for everyone.”
