Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the appointment of Congresswoman Barbara Lee as U.S. Representative to the 74th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations. Speaker Pelosi recommended Congresswoman Lee for this position.

“The appointment of Congresswoman Barbara Lee as U.S. Representative to the 74th General Assembly of the United Nations is a testament to her lifetime of resolute leadership to build a more peaceful and prosperous world.  Congresswoman Lee has the full confidence of the Congress, who knows that her integrity, intellect and firm moral vision will help advance our priorities and strengthen the UN as it works to confront the greatest challenges of our time, including income disparity, the climate crisis the alleviation of poverty and the eradication of disease.
