House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi is leading a congressional delegation on a trip to China.

Pelosi and six other Democrats left Washington on Thursday for a meeting with local government officials, students and other individuals.

Pelosi's office said the purpose of the trip was to focus on national security, economics, cyber security, climate change and human rights.

Pelosi has been outspoken on the issue of human rights throughout her tenure.

Joining the trip were Reps. Jim McGovern of Massachusetts, Betty McCollum and Tim Walz of Minnesota, Joyce Beatty of Ohio and Alan Lowenthal and Ted Lieu of California.

Pelosi last traveled to China in 2009.
