Oversight Hearing on GSA

The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is currently holding a hearing: "Allegations of Misconduct at the General Services Administration." The hearing will inquire about allegations that GSA Administrator Lurita Doan failed to follow proper procedures for awarding federal contracts, attempted to intervene in contract negotiations, and engaged in partisan political activities on federal property. Chairman Waxman:

"The first issue we will examine is a political briefing that took place at GSA on January twenty sixth of this year. This briefing was conducted by Scott Jennings, Karl Rove's deputy at the White House. Mr. Jennings has been in the news for his involvement in the firings of the US Attorneys and is one of the White House officials that both the House and Senate have asked to testify. Also at this briefing were administrator Joan and forty other political appointees at GSA some of whom participated by videoconference."

"I'm a little bit embarrassed to admit this but I can say that I honestly don't have a recollection of the presentation at all."

"Mr. Jennings and other White House officials appear to be using their Republican National Committee email accounts on a routine basis to discuss politically sensitive topics. We know from documents obtained by the Judiciary Committee, for example, that Mr. Jennings used the identical Republican National Committee accounts to discuss the US Attorney firings that he was involved with..."
