Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the appointment of Congresswoman Joyce Beatty of Ohio and the reappointment of Congressman Joe Kennedy III of Massachusetts to serve on the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Board of Trustees.
“The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is a premiere venue for America’s performing arts and stands as a living memorial to President Kennedy,” said Speaker Pelosi. “For nearly half a century, this pillar of American cultural life has been a unifying and inspiring part of the fabric of our nation, bringing joy and entertainment into the lives of millions and honoring the words of its namesake: ‘The life of the arts, far from being an interruption, a distraction, in the life of the nation, is close to the center of a nation’s purpose, and is a test to the quality of a nation’s civilization.’”
“As Speaker of the House, it is an honor to appoint two outstanding champions of the arts to the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees,” continued Speaker Pelosi. “Congressman Joe Kennedy has been a powerful voice for the arts, arts education and arts advocacy for all Americans, proudly carrying forth his family’s enduring legacy and work. As a returning board member, his service will continue to bless and strengthen this important institution. It is a privilege to appoint Congresswoman Joyce Beatty, a tireless champion for the arts, to the Board, where her great energy and experience will be vital to the Kennedy Center’s mission to preserve, strengthen and share America’s cultural heritage. Together, the strong leadership and diverse perspectives of these trustees will preserve and strengthen this American treasure.”
The Kennedy Center Board includes members appointed by the President of the United States and members ex officio designated by an Act of Congress.
