Pelosi: We Have Fulfilled Our Promise to Reform Page Board and Protect Pages

Press Release
Washington, D.C. - Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on H.R. 475, the House Page Board Revision Act of 2007, which was signed into law today by President Bush:

'For more than 150 years, the Page School has been a national treasure, with young men and women from across the nation coming to Washington to serve as pages in the U.S. Capitol.

'Democrats promised to reform the Page Board in order to protect and carry out our responsibility to the pages and their families.  With the legislation the President signed today, we have fulfilled that promise.

'This crucial legislation requires regular meetings of the Page Board; makes the board fully bipartisan, adding an additional seat for the minority party; and reflects the concerns of pages and parents by adding a former page and the parent of a current or former page to the board.

'The young people who attend the PageSchool and work in the Congress are our special trust, and we are doing all we can to protect them.'
