Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi delivered remarks yesterday at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute 38th Annual Awards Gala.  Below are the Leader’s remarks:

"Good evening, everyone.  Thank you, Chair Linda Sánchez.  Let us all salute Linda for her inspirational leadership of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and the CHCI.  Thank you, Linda.

[Applause]

"On behalf of the Congress of the United States – and there are many Members of Congress here this evening – I bring congratulations to this year’s esteemed honorees: Chef José Andrés – who we just heard from, Anthony Muñoz, Sonia Gutiérrez, and Alejandra Ceja.  Yay for them!

[Applause]

"Each year, this magnificent gathering speaks to the dazzling achievements of Latino leaders, entrepreneurs, and families.  Each year, we draw fresh inspiration from the energy of our CHCI fellows, interns and young leaders.

"For almost four decades, the CHCI’s work to educate, empower and connect has transformed the opportunities of thousands of aspiring Latino leaders – and advanced the dreams of millions of young people across the country.  Thank you, CHCI, for empowering the growth and influence that will drive progress for all of America’s families.

"So now – again, on behalf of the Congress of the United States – to honor the CHCI, let us all raise our glasses.  Please join me in toasting the CHCI family:  To your energy and entrepreneurship;  To your commitment to comprehensive immigration reform and meaningful social justice;  To the dedication to community that enriches our nation, strengthens our democracy.

"God bless you all, and God bless America.

“¡Salud!”
