Washington, D.C. - Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement this evening on H.R. 1401, the Rail and Mass Transit Security Act of 2007, which passed by a vote of 299 to 124:

'With today's bipartisan vote, the House took the next step toward a new direction for America's security.  This crucial legislation enhances security for our nation's rail and mass transit systems, building on our commitment to make the safety of the American people our top priority.

'Beginning in the first 100 hours with the passage of the 9/11 Commission recommendations, and continuing today, Democrats are fulfilling our promise to the American people to make our nation more secure.'
