Press Release
Washington, D.C. - Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the death of columnist Art Buchwald:

'Art Buchwald was a man of great optimism and good humor.  His title as the 'wit of Washington' was well-earned; he always made for fascinating company.  But he must also be remembered for his gigantic heart and kind spirit. He formed relationships with my children, all of whom adored him.  I am proud to have called him friend for several decades.

'What a joy it was for the many who loved him to spend time with him over the last year. Art faced this last year of his life with his characteristic courage and good humor. As it always was with Art, he did it on his own terms.

'It is with great sadness and respect that I extend deepest condolences to Art's three children, Joel, Jennifer, and Connie, and the entire Buchwald family. I hope it is a comfort to them that so many people mourn their loss and are praying for them at this sad time.'
