$782 Million and Counting | Speaker.gov

WASHINGTON, DC – House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) today issued the following statement after House passage of H.R. 2250, legislation funding the nation’s legislative branch:

“Fiscal responsibility starts at home, or in this case, the House, where we’ve cut the cost of Congress by $782 million.  When we set out to stop Washington’s spending binge, we knew the best way to start was to lead by example, and all told, we’ve cut our spending by nearly 14 percent.   At the same time, we are increasing funding for the Capitol Police, protecting funding for the Government Accountability Office, and boosting accountability of major Capitol projects.  So beyond the dollars and cents, we are doing more with less, just as hardworking families do every day.  This means tough decisions and careful planning, and the credit goes to the hardworking House officers and staff who strive to make the House less costly and more accountable to the American people.”
