WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Bush today signed into law the Deficit Reduction Act.  Following the White House signing ceremony, U.S. House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement:

“For the past year, Republicans have made the difficult and courageous choices necessary to demonstrate fiscal responsibility.  Today, Congress and President Bush took an important step toward making federal programs more effective and efficient, while saving American taxpayers billions of dollars.  On budget and entitlement reform, Republicans have chosen to lead, while Democrats have remained on the sidelines without any plan for a responsible budget.  The lack of leadership by congressional Democrats on a bottom line issue so critical to American taxpayers could not be more apparent.”
