Boehner Statement on House Passage of Intelligence Bill |
WASHINGTON, D.C.House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement after the House passed the FY 2007 Intelligence Authorization Act (H.R. 5020):
“This critical measure continues Republican efforts to detect terrorist activity, prevent terrorist attacks, and disrupt terrorist networks.  It also continues our efforts to reverse the devastating cuts in human intelligence funding under the Clinton Administration and to rebuild our intelligence capabilities, which are critical to winning the War on Terror.

“The actions of 56 Democrats who voted against holding accountable those who illegally disclose information that damages national security are very troubling.  The recent illegal leaks of classified information to the news media have done irreparable harm to U.S. national security and put American lives at risk.  The fact is Democrats talk a good game about national security but consistently oppose giving our intelligence community the tools to get the job done.

“We cannot allow our country to return to a pre-September 11th mentality, where terrorists have no fear that our intelligence community is doing everything possible to stop them.  This bill marks one more positive step in Republican efforts to strengthen our human intelligence capabilities.”
